Mac OS X netbook (mini laptop) ontwikkelaar Meklort heeft zojuist  een pre-release uitgebracht van de 0.8.4 versie van de populaire NetbookInstaller en NetbookBootMaker applicatie. Deze versie zou nu 64-bit support leveren, vernieuwde kexts aan boord hebben en een geupdate Chameleon bootloader. 

De updates (Engels): 

  • Updated Chameleon. I've also included numerous patches which are detailed in the previous post.
  • (Partial) Support for 64bit cpus. For best results boot in 32bit mode (arch=i386). I'll try to update the 64bit kexts shortly and post an update.
  • Updated the bootloader code so that when chameleon is installed, it no longer messes up windows installations.
  • Added code so that in the event of a system update, NetbookInstaller is automatically run on reboot.
  • NetbookBootMaker no longer patches  the install dvd, instead it installs a kext to patch the dvd at runtime (like NetbookCD). This means you'll probably want to restore the install dvd (this won't be required in the future since the dvd isn't modified anymore).
  • Added a recovery option for chameleon. Just type "recover" and a known good set of kext will be loaded, while /Extra/Extensions.mkext will be ignored.
Er is nog geen support voor de Asus 1201n, maar daar wordt hard aan gewerkt!

MyHack installer versie 1.0 final gereleased

Na veel beta's en release candidates is MyHack installer versie 1.0 vandaag gereleased. Doormiddel van MyHack is het mogelijk om met behulp van een retail Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard op een normale PC te installeren. Uitgangspunt is natuurlijk wel dat je redelijk compatible hardware hebt (Intel processor, Intel chipset met ICHx south-bridge, etc).

Multibeast

TonyMacx86 heeft onlangs een tool gereleased waarmee je, nadat je Mac OS X Snow Leopard hebt geinstalleerd, het systeem verder kan tweaken. 


Met Multibeast kan je allerlei dingen aanpassen op je Snow Leopard installatie, hieronder de features van Multibeast (Engels):

  • Bootloaders - Choice of Chameleon 2.0 RC4 AsereBLN 1.1.9, RC5pre6, or PC-EFI 10.6
  • Graphics Kexts - NVEnabler64.kext, ATY_init.kext, EVEnabler
  • DSDTs - All Edited DSDTs from P55 DSDT Database

Apple in de aanval? (Mac OS X 10.6.3)

De Hackintosh community heeft weinig last van de ‘beveiligingen’ die Apple in het besturingssysteem heeft verwerkt. Al jaren is het bijzonder eenvoudig om deze beveiliging te omzeilen en dit weet Apple als geen ander, toch wordt hier door het bedrijf uit Cupertino niets aan gedaan. Dit in tegenstelling tot de iPhone, onlangs heeft Apple nieuwe firmware uitgebracht waarmee het wederom niet meer mogelijk is om te jailbreaken.

Het tij lijkt echter te keren, want in de nieuwste beta’s van Mac OS X 10.6.3 grijpt Apple in! De AppleHDA.kext, die verantwoordelijk is voor het geluid, is drastisch veranderd. De hardware id’s zijn nu "hard coded” in de kext. 

Hard coded?
Tot en met Mac OS X 10.6.2 is het mogelijk om de hardware id’s (hiermee geef je aan welke hardware ondersteund wordt) eenvoudig te wijzigen in een xml bestand. In de laatste Mac OS X 10.6.3 beta heeft Apple deze hardware id’s niet meer in een xml bestand staan, maar in de executable staan (die niet eenvoudig te wijzigen is). Kortom: geen geluid meer!

Uiteraard wordt achter de schermen al hard gewerkt aan een oplossing en de Hackintosh community zal je niet teleur stellen. Maar we moeten toch constateren dat Apple met een ‘tegenaanval’ bezig is, want er kan maar 1 reden zijn voor deze actie…

Waarom
De hackintosh community denkt dat dit het resultaat is van de commerciële pogingen om Mac OS X te verkopen op een PC (denk aan Psystar en PearPC), maar ook piraterij heeft hoogstwaarschijnlijk wat gewicht in de schaal gelegd. Dit is dan ook de reden dat distributies niet meer worden ondersteund door de Hackintosh community. 

Er zijn overigens nog meer grote veranderingen in Mac OS X 10.6.3 aan te merken. Zo wordt USB en Firewire anders dan voorheen aangesproken, of dit problemen gaat geven is nog niet duidelijk. 

Updaten
Bent je in het bezit van een Hackintosh en zie je Mac OS X 10.6.3 in de Software Update verschijnen, denk 2x na voordat je update! Wacht op de berichtgeving op de Hackintosh fora!

Linken naar (illegale) distributies

Muzzle.nl groeit elke dag. Dat is natuurlijk fantastisch nieuws voor de Hackintosh community in Nederland, maar daardoor moeten er ook wat dingen gestroomlijnd worden.

Mac OS X op een PC installeren moet je zien als een project, dit hebben we altijd al gezegd. Het leuke van dit project is dat je ontzettend veel leert van het Mac OS X besturingssysteem. Je moet je er wel even voor inzetten… Ben je nieuw? Verwacht dan niet dat je morgen Mac OS X op je computer hebt draaien.

Muzzle.nl is een groot voorstander van de zogenaamde "Retail” DVD installatie. Een retail DVD koop je bij Apple (link), zo heb je een legale versie van Mac OS X in handen. Ga vervolgens met de DVD van start, op deze manier leer je zoals eerder gezegd veel meer van het Mac OS X besturingssysteem, maar je krijgt ook meer voldoening van!

Een distributie is, indien je zelf geen geldige licentie van Mac OS X hebt, illegaal. Wij kunnen en mogen niet linken naar deze distributies. Vanaf heden zal hier dan ook op worden toegezien, zodat we Muzzle.nl legaal kunnen houden. Ben je toch opzoek naar een distributie, dan weet je vast wel waar je moet zoeken…
